A drop of ten degrees or more within a 24-hour period is one of the strongest daylight movement triggers there is. Deer that have been feeding at 2 a.m. all week will suddenly be on their feet an hour before sunset. The first cold morning behind a front is, for many hunters, the single best sit of the season.
- 10–20 degrees below normal: excellent daylight movement, extended feeding.
- Near seasonal normal: standard dawn and dusk pattern.
- 10+ degrees above normal: movement compresses into low light; expect short windows.
- Extreme cold and wind chill: deer bed tight, then feed hard when it breaks.
